Excellent general purpose treatment for skin care, oatmeal helps to relieve dryness, restore natural moisture to aid in the treatment of small irritations due to many causes and sources of skin sensitivity. Less skin irritation can be caused by sensitivity to the ingredients in skin care products, exposure to chemicals found in household cleaning products, scrub with the wrong product, excessive scrubbing or rubbing during the piling process, and many other factors. Cleaning the face with oatmeal helps to soothe skin irritation and relieve discomfort.
Oatmeal, when used as a skin cleanser, actually absorbs and removes surface dirt and impurities and provides a gentle exfoliation, leaving skin smooth, soft and clean without soap. As a mask, oatmeal deep cleanses pores without drying and irritating the skin. And as a facial scrub, oatmeal gently but effectively removes dead skin cells to reveal softer, smoother looking skin. - rolled oats (not current) - are in the section of the supermarket cereal
- Blender or food processor
Directions: Grind oats in blender or food processor until oats have the consistency of flour. Pour into a bowl, cover tightly, and use as follows:
oatmeal facial cleanser and scrub: Pour a small amount of ground oatmeal into palm, and add a little water to make dough. Apply on face and neck and massage on the skin. Rinse off. Follow with moisturizer.
Oatmeal mask: Pour a small amount of ground oatmeal into palm, and add a little water to make dough. (For more moisturizing mask, use milk instead of water.) Apply to the face and neck and leave on skin for about 5 minutes. Rinse off. Follow with moisturizer.
Lemon Oatmeal mask: Add a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to oatmeal and make a paste. Apply on face and neck and leave on skin for 5 minutes. Rinse off. Follow with moisturizer. Weekly use of Lemon Oatmeal mask can help to bleach dark spots and freckles, of course. Lemon juice contains citric acid and vitamin C which acts as a natural alpha hydroxy acids help dissolve dead skin cells for a brighter, more even toned skin.
Caution: fresh lemon juice can cause a tingling sensation, which can become uncomfortable. For sensitive skin, dilute lemon juice with equal amounts of water before mixing into oatmeal and application to the skin. If tingling becomes severe, wash the skin immediately with warm water.
